🛟 Sea Swimming Safety
Sea swimming is one of the most refreshing, energising, and freeing ways to enjoy the outdoors — but the sea deserves respect. Whether you're dipping, bobbing, or swimming a little further, here are some tips to help you stay safe, confident, and warm.
🌊 Know the Conditions
-
Check tides and currents before you swim — they change fast. Use a local tide app or ask other swimmers.
-
Avoid swimming during rough seas, strong winds, or when visibility is low (fog, dusk, or heavy rain).
-
Always enter the water slowly to let your body adjust, especially in cold conditions.
🧍♀️Never Swim Alone
-
Swim with a friend or tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back.
-
Join a local swimming group — there's safety (and craic) in numbers!
🎽 Visibility Matters
-
Some wetsuit colours (like teal or ocean tones) blend in with the water, which can make you harder to spot from a distance.
-
If you're swimming beyond a quick dip, we recommend using a high-visibility tow float or tow bag and a bright swim cap.
🩱 Our Wetsuits
Our wetsuits are designed for comfort and fun, not long-distance performance. They’re ideal for short dips, casual swims, and watersports — but if you’re heading out far or into open water, pair them with safety gear for added visibility and support.
❄️ Cold Water Tips
-
Acclimatise gradually — never jump straight in.
-
Breathe slowly and stay calm as your body adjusts.
-
Limit your time in the water, especially in winter.
-
Bring warm layers, a hat, and a hot drink for after.
📵 No Risky Business
-
Don’t swim after drinking alcohol or if you're feeling unwell.
-
Never dive into unknown or shallow waters.
-
If in doubt, don’t go out.
✅ Quick Checklist Before You Dip:
-
⬜ Checked tide & weather
-
⬜ Told someone or brought a swim buddy
-
⬜ Wearing a bright cap or tow float (if going further)
-
⬜ Warm clothes and hot drink ready for after
💙 Respect the sea. Enjoy the swim.
Whether it’s a splash, a float, or a brave dip in winter — safety makes it all more enjoyable. Your fun matters most when you feel calm, prepared, and visible. Swim safe!
